Leah Downard is the Assistant Band Director in the Miami Public Schools. Originally from Union, MO, she earned both a Bachelor of Music Education and a Master of Music degree in Wind Band Conducting at Missouri State University in Springfield. While at MSU, Miss Downard performed in principal positions in the Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, and Horn Ensemble. During her graduate tenure, she conducted the Wind Symphony and Concert Band, Stage (Jazz) Band, and assisted with the 360 member Missouri State Pride Marching Band. She studied horn under Dr. Lisa Casey and conducting under Dr. Belva Prather and Dr. Craig B. Davis. Her professional affiliations include OkMEA, NEA, NAfME, MMEA, the Society for Ethnomusicology (SEM), and Pi Kappa Lambda – National Music Honor Society. Miss Downard is in her first year at Miami Public Schools and her first year living in Oklahoma.
