Mrs. Toye Harris currently teaches in Miami Public Schools serving as Director of Bands. After graduating from Owasso High School, Mrs. Harris earned a Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Oklahoma Baptist University. She began her teaching career in Commerce, OK in August of 1995 and in the fall of 1997, moved to the Miami Public Schools. Mrs. Harris continued her education, earning a Masters in Music with and emphasis in Wind Conducting from Pittsburg State University in 2004. In 2007, Harris earned the distinction of National Bard Certified Teacher.
Mrs. Harris has served Miami Public Schools for 16 years. Under Harris’s direction, the Miami Bands constantly receive superior ratings, have earned 9 Outstanding Achievement Awards from the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activity Association, and, in 2011, the High School band was awarded the OSSAA Sweepstakes Award. Mrs. Harris has served as a clinician and adjudicator in Oklahoma, Missouri, and Kansas. She is a member of the Oklahoma Music Educator’s Association, Northeast Band Director’s Association, Oklahoma Music Adjudicator’s Association, and Phi Beta Mu.
When the music stops, Harris spends time with her husband, Joel and son, Gage. They enjoy many outdoor activities including running and soccer.
